MASTIC LEAVES (Meneviş)
Meneviş is a small tree, common to Muğla-Denizli area. Its leaves are harvested and used to make this yogurt based dish. It is very tasty and sure to contain lots of goodness. It is a very rare meal due to limited harvest so make sure to taste whenever you come across.
Ingredients:
Meneviş leaves
Bulgur, 1 tablespoon
Yogurt
Onion
Paprika
Mint
Garlic
Preparation:
Wash the leaves and dice finely.
Add into a saucepan with plenty of water and let it simmer for 20 minutes.
In a pan, add diced onion, olive oil, paprika and fry 2-3 minutes.
Drain the leaves and add into a pan. Cook on a low heat for 10 minutes.
Add hot water less then enough to cover the leaves.
Add bulgur and salt. Cook until the water is finished.
In a bowl, mix yogurt, diced garlic and mint.
Take cooked mastic leaves onto a plate and pour garlic-yogurt on top.
In a pan, fry paprika with olive oil, drizzle onto the dish while hot.
