AYRAN

Ayran is one of the most healthiest and pleasant drink in the world. It is often the drink accompanying dinner or lunch in Turkey. It can be enjoyed by itself as well, in a hot summer day as a simple refreshment. It bears all the goodness coming from yogurt. So simple to prepare; you need only yogurt, water and salt. To mix, you can use a hand whisker, no need to use an electrical one. For the first beating of yogurt, magic whisker does a good job as well. You can use any yogurt in Turkey, but in UK, for best results, use the Greek style yogurt since Turkish style yogurt is not sold here.


Ingredients (for 1 litre ayran):
  • 250 g yogurt
  • Water, up to 1 litre
  • Salt
Preparation:
  • Beat the yogurt with a small amount of water until it becomes smooth and runny. 
  • Add the remaining water gradually by mixing all the time making a homogenous mixture. 
  • Add salt to your taste. 
  • Serve chilled.
You can add a couple of fresh basil or mint leaves to give it a nice smell.
